POSITION: Student Mentor
Wisdom Ranch School is an alternative boarding school for adolescent
boys on a 2000 acre working cattle ranch near Arco, Idaho. Wisdom
Ranch and its staff provide an environment where young men develop
their own motivation, independence, personal responsibility, and
decision-making skills. It combines academics, a family-style setting,
and ranch living to create a well-rounded experience for our students.
The student mentor position is integral to the success of the Wisdom
Ranch School (WRS) and its students. Mentors are role models in every
way—in work, academics, and play. Student mentors live with and
work alongside our students during their shifts. The job requires a
passion for helping others, genuine dedication and caring, and a desire
to work with high school-age youth.
The schedule at WRS is unique. Student mentors start by working 18
days a month. You’ll earn more time off during each quarter with
us. It makes for a great work hard / play hard life balance, but don’t
apply to work here for the schedule, apply to work here because you
want to make a difference in someone’s life.
Requirements: A college degree is the only true job requirement; however,
it takes a special person to be successful in the student mentor position.
People who are successful in the position tend to possess: 1) a strong
sense of self, 2) an ability to be flexible and learn new approaches
to working with people, 3) a passion for personal development, education,
and self-reflection, 4) an appreciation for hard work and the outdoors,
5) a sense of humor. Prior teaching experience, a teaching certification,
and ranch experience is an asset, but not required.
Salary & Benefits: Salary starts at $1800/month with scheduled
increases each quarter. Healthcare benefits fully paid after 3 months.
